GREAT British trombonist Chris Barber returns to The Playhouse, Weston, on March 13 with his fabulous 11-piece big band for an evening of jazz and blues.Chris Barber's repertoire will include his favourite music from his signature tune Bourbon Street Parade to music by Duke Ellington, Sidney Bechet and the soulful blues style of Miles Davis. Inspired by the King Oliver Creole Jazz Band, Chris Barber formed his first Barber New Orleans Band in 1949 at the age of 19.The band turned professional in 1954 and has been one of Europe's most successful traditional jazz bands ever.Over the years, the Barber New Orleans Band has evolved into the Chris Barber Jazz & Blues Band, an eight-piece group blending brass and reeds in a blues-influenced way. Recently, Chris has added a three-piece blowing section to the band to create The Big Chris Barber Band.In its impressive history, the band inspired many groups such as The Rolling Stones and The Beatles, and has shared the stage on many occasions with such artistes as Van Morrison and Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler.The Big Chris Barber Band will arrive at Weston's Playhouse Theatre on March 11 at 8pm.
