One of this year's biggest movies blasts onto the big screen this week at the Odeon, Weston, - and this third X-Men instalment, reportedly one of the most expensive films ever made, is likely to be the last. For those of you who don't know, the X-Men is the name given to a superpowered group, led by Professor Charles Xavier and based at his school for gifted students. Their mission is to foster goodwill for mutants like themselves, in a world where some people are born with extraordinary powers, and many ordinary humans fear them for it.In The Last Stand, a cure is dramatically found to treat mutations. Lines are drawn amongst the X-Men, led by Xavier (Patrick Stewart), and the Brotherhood, a band of powerful mutants organised under Xavier's former ally, Magneto (Ian McKellen). As well as Stewart and McKellen, Hugh Jackman returns as Wolverine and Halle Berry reprises her role as Storm. In addition, look out for the likes of Kelsey Grammer, best known for his role in the comedy show Frasier, Famke Janssen and Rebecca Romijin, and Vinnie Jones - the former footballer taking on the persona of a mutant aptly named as Juggernaut! As the name suggests this is expected to be the final X-Men adventure although spin-offs are a distinct possibility.THE Weston & Somerset Mercury has teamed up with the Odeon, Weston, to offer two lucky readers the chance to win a pair of tickets to see any film of their choice, subject to availability. To enter, please answer the following question:How many X-Men films were released before this latest instalment?Closes:9 am on June 1.Usual Archant Regional Ltd rules apply and the editor's decision is final.
