THE storytellers at Pixar Animation Studios will take film fans into an entirely original world in this week's big screen release. The new animated comedy adventure Ratatouille (U) sees a rat named Remy dreaming of becoming a chef despite his family's concerns and the problem of being a rat in a rodent-phobic profession.Remy pursues his dream and becomes an unwanted visitor beneath the kitchen at one of Paris' most exclusive restaurants. He befriends Linguini, the garage boy, who inadvertently discovers Remy's amazing talents.Together they set into motion a chain of extraordinary events that turns the culinary world of Paris upside down.Eventually Remy must decide between his dreams or returning to his previous existence as a rat forever. The film is directed by Academy Award winner Brad Bird, the man behind The Incredibles. To make this release distinct from previous Pixar films, the crew spent a week in Paris to understand its environment. There are many water-based sequences, one of which is set in the sewers and described as more complex than the blue whale scene in Finding Nemo.* The Weston & Somerset Mercury has teamed up with the Odeon, Weston, to offer two lucky readers the chance to win a pair of tickets to see a film of their choice, subject to availability. To enter please answer the following question: What sort of animal is Remy?* Closes: 9am on October 19.* Usual Archant rules apply and the editor's decision is final.
