A PROPOSAL for a controversial wind farm has been submitted to Sedgemoor District Council.Green firm Ecotricity submitted a planning application this week for the site between Burnham and Brent Knoll. The firm wants to build five wind turbines with towers 78 metres high. They would be built on a piece of land measuring just over three hectares. The closest that a turbine would be to any house is 440 km.Ecotricity managing director Dale Vince said: "We are very pleased to be submitting a proposal to Sedgemoor and have spent many months in design and many more months in choosing the right site."Wind turbines make energy available to local people. It is vitally important to do what we can to fight climate change and building local wind turbines is the best way to do that."Proposals for the development of a wind farm have been controversial. Shortly after the plans were first announced, a group called kNOll To Wind Farm was set up to oppose them.Members of the group say they will be looking closely at the plans that have been submitted.kNOll To Wind Farm spokesman, Andrew Manning, said: "Clearly we need to review the plans. We're going to look at any differences between them and the original proposal."I would imagine we would like to have some dialogue with Ecotricity at some point.
