A WESTON-SUPER-MARE couple who won their 'perfect' wedding on the Grand Pier thanks to the Mercury's win-a-wedding competition say the ceremony was 'the perfect start to married life'.
Peter Anstis, aged 47, and Justine Changeur, aged 40, met in a coffee shop and got engaged in 2013. They won the prize in August last year, and have since been planning feverishly for their big day.
On June 21, a limousine picked up Justine in her ivory gown and took her to the pier, where she walked down the gangway to meet her fiancé.
Justine said: “This part of the day was exceptionally memorable, for walking down the pier’s gangplanks was like walking down a very long aisle.
“The feeling of being elated over the day itself but obviously still coupled with pre-wedding nerves and has made a wonderful lasting memory.”
The wedding day coincided with Weston’s air show, and after becoming Mr and Mrs Anstis the couple and their guests celebrated with a glass of bubbly as the Red Arrows flew overhead.
Justine said: “What an incredible start to married life, we will never be able to thank the pier enough as this really was a fairytale come true but what is special is the memories of our wedding day are now forever present every time we look upon this amazing iconic structure in the sea.”
The photographs and the three-course dinner flew by, and it was soon time for the speeches.
The couple raised a toast to Justine’s brother, Gary, who was fighting his last stage of cancer. Justine said: “It was momentous to be able to tell him how much he was loved by everybody in that room. There really wasn’t a dry eye in the place.
“Sadly he passed away two weeks later but we will always be so grateful because the pier allowed some beautiful moments to be cherished and be remembered forever.”
