A SEAFRONT car park, allotment gardens and green open space have been put forward as requirements for the development of a prominent site in Clevedon.A development brief is currently being drawn up for the future development of Clevedon Hall Estate, which includes the former St Brandon's Junior School. The brief is currently for consultation purposes only, but once approved, will be used as a guide for any future development of the Elton Road estate.Clevedon Town Council is asking for a number of elements to be included in any future development of the site. These include:* An extended, landscaped public car park and coach park in the area adjacent to the existing small car park opposite the Little Harp Public House. The car park would cater for day visitors and coach parking.* Allotment gardens in the area adjacent to the existing Victoria Road allotment site to accommodate the 72 residents on the waiting list for allotments.* An amenity/open space area with a play area and picnic space for use by local families. The town council also suggested the Clevedon Hall site be looked at as an area which could be developed as a new community hospital for the town.Councillors also said they would welcome a superior hotel with leisure facilities to help boost the local economy and provide employment.Clevedon town councillor Carole Wring, who is also chairman of the town's Civic Society, said: "This is one of the most prestigious areas of Clevedon."We are very much in need of extra car parking along the seafront and it would be lovely to have a park and picnic area included in any development as this would really benefit the town's residents and tourists."It is not the right area for a development of a large number of houses."We do need extra facilities along the seafront."It is a heritage area and should be developed with this in mind."The comments from Clevedon Town Council on the land will now be submitted to North Somerset Council for consideration.
