A GROUP of volunteers which supports The Playhouse donated spotlights to the iconic theatre worth £15,500.

The Friends Of The Playhouse group handed two sets of theatrical lights to the theatre in High Street, Weston.

The group, who also help out at the front of house when events are on, have donated other items in the past including a grand piano.

The volunteers raise money through community events such as raffles and bucket collections.

Events manager for The Playhouse Matthew Tilke said: “The friends are very, very important to us. Not only in raising money but also the staffing help.

“We need modern equipment but we haven’t got the money to keep the theatre up to date.”

The group’s vice chairman Freda Johnston said: “Without the Friends of the Playhouse, the ambience and friendliness of The Playhouse would be lost.”
