A woman has been arrested in connection with an attempted theft.

A 31-year-old woman was taken into custody on suspicion of theft of a caravan, theft of a motor vehicle and driving without insurance.

She has now been released pending further investigations.

Police were called to Weston Road, in Congresbury, on Wednesday (May 23) at 4am after receiving reports of someone stealing a caravan.

A dark 4x4 sped off from the scene when the police arrived, leaving the caravan behind.

The same car was stopped on the M4 by officers and the driver was arrested.

It was later revealed the car the suspect was driving had a fake number plate and had been reported stolen in the West Midlands.

PC Paul Bailey, from Avon and Somerset Constabulary’s investigations team, said: “The victim had been targeted previously by thieves so we are pleased to have been able to prevent another incident.

“We are also working with three other police forces and the investigation is on-going so anyone with information can call 101 quoting reference 5218112001.”
