WORK is due to be carried out on a troublesome Worle crossing by Christmas.

Flooding in the High Street is making the road safety tool virtually unusable at certain times of the year.

During times of heavy rain pedestrians are finding it difficult to cross the street near to the Golden Lion pub.

Worle resident Dave Burrows brought the problem to the attention of the Mercury earlier this year and now North Somerset Council has said it hopes to create a channel along the crossing by Christmas so that water can drain away.

A spokesman said: “The crossing is in the lower part of the High Street, which is why the flooding happens.

“Some remedial work has already been carried out, but we hope to put the channel in by Christmas.”
