Workers lobby against private council contracts

MORE than 40 people held a demonstration outside a North Somerset Council meeting to protest against more jobs moving to the private sector.
A group from Unison, the union of public sector workers, were reacting to the proposal to transfer more services to Agilisys.
A number of council services are already outsourced to the private company, including IT, human resources, payroll and the contact centre.
The authority’s Unison representative Helen Thornton gave a speech at the meeting, asking councillors to reconsider the terms and conditions of the contract.
Councillors voted to amend the report slightly, recommending officers look at other options than the contract including an in-house service plan.
