A 10-year-old girl from Worle spent a year growing her hair only to have it chopped off for charity, and she raised more than £450 in the process.

Lily Millett, who goes to Mendip Green Primary School, was inspired to donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust charity after reading a story in the paper.

Lily’s mum, Carly Welch, said: “She wanted to help poorly children when she saw a story in the paper last year, and she decided she wanted to help too.

“She set herself a goal and a fundraising target of £200, and she smashed it.

“She grew her hair for a year, I’m so proud.”

Lily had 13 inches of her hair cut off at em2 hairdressers in Worle and raised £473.

Her hair will now be used by the Little Princess Trust to create a wig which will be given to a sick little boy or girl.
