Care home plan for Worle GP surgery rejected

A former GP surgery building in Worle will not be converted into a care home.
The Village Surgery, in Hill Road East, closed last year, when the services moved to the Worle Health Centre.
Obsidian Care wanted to turn the building into a six-bedroom residential care unit for adults with autism and mental health conditions.
However, North Somerset Council has turned down the planning application.
The planning officer said there was no evidence to show why there was a need for the care facility.
The officer said: “The council’s people and communities team has also confirmed there is no demand for a residential care home in this area.
“They have also raised the commissioning strategy is moving away from residential care and towards supporting living in the community, meaning any future need is likely to decline.”

Planning permission to use the building as a nursery was given in 2017.
