85-year-old woman robbed after man grabbed her from behind on secluded path

An elderly woman was left with cuts and bruises after being pushed to the floor by a man who robbed her in Worle.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the incident at around 9.25am in Queensway yesterday (Wednesday).

The 85-year-old woman left Lloyd’s Pharmacy, at North Worle District Centre, and went towards the roundabout.

She turned left onto the footpath, along the main road, and headed towards Becket Road.
As she passed Kwik Fit on her left-hand side, she walked along a secluded pathway, hidden by large trees and bushes.

The man approached her from behind, grabbed her arms and pushed her to the floor. She was left with cuts on her face and bruises.

The man made off towards Sainsbury’s with her handbag, which is described as being black with a large handle.

The offender is described as white, about 5ft 5ins tall, of average build and possibly in his late teens. He was wearing a navy hoodie.

PC Appleby, the investigating officer, said: “This was a cowardly and nasty attack on a vulnerable woman who was on her own.

“Please help us with any information if you recognise this description or you were in the area around the time of this callous and despicable robbery.”
