Plans to close Wrington’s GP surgery will be discussed this evening (Wednesday).

Mendip Vale Medical Practice (MVMP) announced at the start of the month it wishes to close down its surgery in Broad Street – subject to public consultation and NHS England approval.

It only opened a few years ago as a satellite surgery in the wake of a new facility in Langford being built to replace Wrington’s old surgery.

But David Clark, MVMP’s executive manager, said it was too small, was not used often enough and ought to be closed to save money.

Wrington Parish Council will discuss the plan tonight at the John Locke Room in Silver Street, at 7.30pm.

In its agenda, it says: “The council was not informed by MVMP of this consultation, which has not been widely publicised and has a short response timescale.”
