A youth centre has reached the halfway mark in its mammoth fundraising drive.

Last year Yatton Youth Club began trying to raise £50,000 to make major changes to its base in Rock Road. It wants to upgrade and modernise its 1950s headquarters, with the proposed changes including revamping the kitchen so cookery sessions can be run for children.

The latest fundraiser was a charity car wash, which was held before the village carnival.

Volunteers scrubbed and polished cars in return for donations.

Yatton Horticultural Society has also helped the efforts, by donating £400. Youth worker Niccy Hook thanked the group for its support, describing it as a ‘fantastic’ donation.

The club’s fundraising also received a massive boost in May when a donor contributed £10,000 anonymously.
