Thousands of pounds raised for youth charity during sleep out

Charity staff and members of the public slept rough to raise £2,000 for YMCA Somerset Coast.

People paid £10 to experience a night as a homeless person on the streets of Weston in a bid to raise money and awareness for the youth charity.

The event was part of the YMCA Sleep Easy Week which saw venues across the country come together over seven days to promote its work with young people.

The money raised doubled the charity’s original target and will be put towards supporting services used by children and teenagers.

YMCA Somerset Coast chief executive Martin Hodgson said he was ‘thrilled’ about the success of the event.

He added: “Thanks to their support we can now help even more young people than before and support them to realise their full potential.

“One night out can make a lifetime of difference.”
