DONATIONS of more than £2,500 to help save a junior football club have been 'wasted' because it has suffered another summer of vandalism.Worle Junior Football Club found itself on the brink of closure earlier in the year as vandals had left the clubhouse almost unusable. But community spirit shone through and the club, based in Midhaven Rise, was inundated with donations and offers of help. But club chairman Tim Clarke says the vandals keep targeting the clubhouse, undoing any repair work carried out.Mr Clarke said: "It is wasted money because we're struggling to stop the vandals continually wrecking the hut. The more we do the more they wreck it. We are trying to keep on top of things but it is a constant battle."There was a whole spate of vandalism over the summer. A scaffolding pole was put through the windows which were fitted with layers of Georgian wire glass. "The vandals must have found the pole elsewhere and brought it to the hut because we have a policy of keeping the site clear of anything they could use."All the big windows are now boarded up but the vandals just prise the boards off. They've even smashed through the hut's side panels."There is a lot of spirit in the club because, at the end of the day, it is simply made up of eight teams of boys trying to play football."So instead of trying to repair the hut we're now focussing on the ground itself."The club has asked Weston Youth Council for a £2,000 grant to help pay for new goals and repairs to the pitch.
