YOUNG carers will be given cards in recognition of their responsibilities at home in a special event set at Weston’s Winter Gardens today (Tue).

The Young Carers Registration Card will be launched at noon today by Crossroads Care and Weston’s mayor, Cllr David Hitchins and given to every child who has been recognised as a young carer by the service.

Heidi Every, Young Carers Service manager, said: “Sometimes young carers are not able to arrive at school on time or reach homework deadlines because of their situation at home.

“The card creates an instant understanding that their lives are not as straight forward as the majority of other young people.

“Many of the children that we work with have told us that they have been expected to relay personal, private information about their situation in circumstances where they have felt uncomfortable.”

For further information contact the Young Carers Service on 01934 411854.
