YOUNG entrepreneurs will battle it out in a competition in Weston next week.

The 2008 Young Enterprise Company of the Year will be held at the Winter Gardens on March 25 and teams from three schools will take part.

They have each set up their own companies and have spent a year running it, electing a board of directors, raising capital and marketing and financing a product or service.

They have also presented a report and the company accounts to their shareholders.

'Purple Phoenix' is the name given to the company set up by pupils from Broadoak Mathematics and Computing College in Weston, Backwell School's company is called 'Backwell School Young Enterprise' and pupils from Gordano School in Portishead called their company 'MBOO'.

The students involved are aged 15-19 and each team has prepared a report outlining their company's objectives and achievements, will create a professional trade stand and will give a presentation to the judges.

The winners of the North Somerset competition will go on to compete against teams from all over the West of England at a competition on May 14 in Bristol.
