BIG Worle is aiming to help young people in the community by giving away grants of up to £500.

The group is holding a U Spend event – a session held in the style of Dragon’s Den – where people can pitch their ideas and an audience will vote on who should win the money.

The event is focused on initiatives for young people, but applications can be made for projects which aim to improve community safety, training and employment, active lifestyles, the environment, community meeting places, communication and activities for old people.

A Big Worle spokesman said: “U Spend gets people together who might not normally meet, bringing their own knowledge, views and experience, to decide on funding for local issues.”

Applications must be completed by November 9 and forms can be downloaded from

The event will be on December 5. People will be asked to make a three-minute presentation to residents.
