YOUNGSTERS in Portishead are being urged to make their mark against criminals this week.

A special property marking day is planned at Gordano School on Friday, which aims to help the students safeguard their belongings.

Gadgets such as iPods, MP3 players, mobile phones and bikes can all be taken along to the event.

Students will also be given crime prevention tips during the two sessions, which will be held from 12.10-12.50pm and at 2.30pm.

Police community support officer Dawn Tremlett said: "We want to get across the message to students that while possessions may mean a great deal to them, to a thief they are just another way of making easy cash.

"By security marking property it increases the chances of items being returned and will often serve as a great deterrent to the thief.
