Youngsters team up for charity fundraiser

TWO 10-year-olds teamed up with a Somerset group to raise cash for a charity.

Ollie Payne, grandson of Moose International Burnham Lodge 123’s lady president Rita Harris, used his baking skills with friend Charlie Haley to cook up some sweet treats for Time Is Precious.

The charity helped Ollie’s younger brother, five-year-old Charlie, after he was rushed into Frenchay Hospital with a brain tumour.
The two youngsters decided to thank the charity by baking to raise money for more equipment, and handed over a cheque for £640 after a bumper cake sale.
The charity put the money towards an £8,000 3D interactive pod for use by young neurology and burns unit patients.

Mike Lang, a spokesman for Moose International, said: “Grandma Rita Harris said Charlie had been suffering from headaches and sickness and we thought it was just a virus, until Charlie’s mum, Emma, decided to take him to the GP and opticians.
“After carrying out some extensive tests they found the tumour.

“Within hours Charlie was undergoing the operation and fortunately for him the tumour did not turn out to be cancerous.
“We are all so grateful to the surgeons in Frenchay and we all thought it a wonderful idea for Ollie and his friend Charlie to do in aid of the charity.”
