LOCAL people are being asked for their views on a blueprint for the development of a prestigious site in Clevedon.A draft development brief has been prepared for North Somerset Council which sets out potential opportunities for the future development of the Clevedon Hall Estate, including the former St Brandon's Junior School. The brief is currently for consultation purposes only, but once approved, will be used as a guide for any future development of the Elton Road estate. The consultation period will run for 12 weeks and community groups, local residents, the town council and other interested parties will be able to comment on the blueprint.A public exhibition will also be held at St Brandon's Junior School, in Elton Road, on May 19 from 3-7pm and May 20 between 10am and 2pm.The draft takes into account the need to preserve and enhance the setting of the estate at the same time as tackling a number of key council priorities, such as generating local jobs and providing affordable housing as well as accommodation for the elderly.North Somerset Council's executive member for strategic planning and transport, John Crockford-Hawley, said: "The terms of this draft development brief have been carefully considered to make it clear that we do not want to promote development in areas of the site which cannot or, should not ,absorb them."Rather, our aim is to provide the planning framework for the delivery of an integrated, mixed-use development which respects its surroundings and responds to the needs of the immediate area."The comments of local residents and all other interested parties will be invaluable in achieving this."Following the consultation period, and consideration of all the comments raised, an amended version of the development brief will be formally adopted as a guide for determining future planning applications for the site. Copies of the draft development brief are available for public inspection at Clevedon Library in Old Church Road, Somerset House in Weston and on the council's website at www.n-somerset.gov.uk A display outlining the brief is available for viewing at the town council offices in Old Street, Clevedon, from 9am-2pm, Monday to Friday, during the consultation period.
