ASHCOMBE'S opening day was attended by nearly 100 members and their guests, and the occasion was blessed by a warm and sunny day.

President Roy Powell welcomed everyone and said the club could look forward to a busy and, hopefully, successful season.
Chairman Bob Kibble said many improvements had been made to the club premises during the close season, and club captain Alan Little hoped members would enjoy a happy season.
After an afternoon of competitive bowls, the players enjoyed a tasty tea, prepared and served by the ladies, who were warmly thanked for their efforts.

The president's opening day is always eagerly awaited, and again this year the day was set fair, and pleasantly warm. Games were played against president's and captain's teams, randomly selected, and the president won overall by just one shot.
It is the start of the club's 99th year, and plans for the centenary year are well under way.
