Uphill Castle enjoyed a comfortable 75-run victory over league leaders Minehead.

Uphill Castle continued their winning ways with the visit of top of the table Minehead, running out victors by 75 runs.

Captain Kieran Ward won the toss and elected to bat first and with Uphill having their strongest side of the season, they really fancied themselves in this encounter.

Openers Seb Winn (46) and George Chapman (22) made a good platform from the start. Although, Winn was dropped in the slips three times, he was eventually caught at mid-wicket in the 21st over.

Uphill took a gamble with Minehead using a lot of spin, Uphill sent in big hitter Jermaine Jones (70), who smashed his way to a half century, with the second ball of his innings going for the biggest six of the season to date.

Luke Bliss (32) batted well with Jones, but once he was out, Marcus Bail (46) batted sensibly supporting Jones. With Uphill scoring at a high and fast rate, this gave the rest of the batsman licence to go in and have a go, but not many runs were scored in the lower order and Uphill were all out for 269 off 44.4 overs.

With a big score to get, Minehead came in with the intention to hit hard from the start. George Cox (9-1-45-1) and Luke Bliss (9-2-36-4) ripped through Minehead’s top order with the help of some outstanding catch from Andy Llewellyn and Tom Llewellyn, which left them on 32-5.

Marcus Bail (9-2-32-1) took another wicket and Kieran Ward (8-0-51-1) also got one. Minehead turned to gaining points rather than going for the win and slowing down the rate of their runs, before Sam Matthews (4.4-0-14-3) came into the attack and finished the job.

Minehead were all out for 194 in what was an outstanding win for the Castle. Man of the match was Jermaine Jones for an explosive innings in only his second game for the club.

Uphill will look to continue their winning streak at Taunton Deane on Saturday.
