Hutton Under-16 Girls halted Frampton Rangers’ 36-game winning streak, with a hard-fought draw.

Hutton Under-16 Girls returned to action with a visit to league champions Frampton Rangers, who were on a winning streak stretching back 36 games.

The Hutton girls were looking rusty following the prolonged lay-off and were struggling to string passes together, but determined defending from Eva Ferdinando, Hannah Capes, Anya Lawrence and Georgia Ferdinando kept the hosts at bay.

Wingers Cat Coates and Tia Craig were causing concern to the home full-backs and with Gabby Massey protecting the ball well, Hutton enjoyed a period of dominance.

Frampton were always dangerous and Lauren Filer in the Hutton goal was in confident mood, but could do little with a shot that bobbled into the net. Shortly afterwards, Frampton doubled their lead with a fine solo goal.

With Robyn Perrett and Jodie Filer contesting every loose ball, Hutton continued to press forward at every opportunity. Due reward came 10 minutes before the break as Filer found Coates and her 20-yard shot fizzed past the home custodian.

Frampton were quickly into their stride at the start of the second period and keeper Filer was again called into action. The game swung from end to end with debutant Phoebe Payton driving the team forward from midfield.

Rachael Curtis’ tenacity and Hannah Worley’s calmness on the ball were features of breaking up Frampton’s play, as Hutton forced a number of corners.

It came as no surprise when Hutton drew level as Jodie Filer’s corner nestled in the top corner of the net and with confidence now high, the girls nearly took the lead when Georgia Ferdinando’s free kick was parried by the home custodian.

Perrett then fired narrowly over following another strong run and cross by Meg Lewis, as Hutton sought a further goal.

Frampton responded well and pressed hard during the final 10 minutes and opportunity beckoned for them as Filer was adjudged to have brought down the oncoming forward before turning away the resulting penalty to ensure that Frampton’s winning streak was brought to an end with a 2-2 draw.

McDonalds Weston and EMS supporter’s player of the game was awarded to Lauren Filer.
