Weston seconds picked up their fifth win of the season at Potterne in Wiltshire.

WESTON 2nd XI travelled to picturesque Potterne in Wiltshire, looking to continue their good start to the season and secure their fifth win of the season.

Potterne won the toss and elected to bat and lost one opener without scoring to Court. The other opener Rose reached 56 before an inspired change of bowling saw Holt trap him lbw.

Two other Potterne batsmen, Hodder (53) and Gaiger (69) reached their half-centuries, capitalising on the short boundaries. Court (9-3-26-3) was again the pick of the bowlers, assisted by some great catches from Chambers, Blamire and Curley.

Si Turner continued to roll back the years behind the stumps with some sharp stops and a superb stumping as Potterne finished on a competitive 252-9 off their 45 overs, with Kearsey taking two wickets in the last over, who finished with three in total.

Weston got off to a good start with an opening partnership of 69 between Lawrence (28) and Press, who made his maiden second team half-century before falling for 66.

Kearsey was bowled and captain Curley and Blamire quickly came and went, leaving Weston ahead of the run rate, but still requiring 110 in 20 overs with five wickets remaining.

However, with Turner taking a liking to the Potterne spin attack and Dancey rotating the strike well, the required total quickly started to fall.

Dancey took advantage of the short boundaries and accelerated his scoring, quickly overtaking Turner’s score and hitting the winning runs in the 44th over. Dancey finished on 56 not out and Turner on 48 not out.

The Forte Financial man of the match went to Dan Press.

THE 4th XI welcomed local rivals Uphill fourths to the East Ground and after losing the toss, were asked to bat first.

After a decent start, the loss of Chris Pack (12) from a run out brought the key partnership of Fin Mayo (58) and Jack Press (67) together. Batting well, they shared a 97-run partnership to set the foundation for a decent 181.

Uphill’s reply was pegged back by Georgia Tulip (2-19) removing the two openers, which bought Paddy Holyday (43) and P Sloman (39) to the crease.

The introduction of spinners Terry Horler (5-31) and Tahmid Ahmed (3-17) soon made the breakthrough and after Holyday and Sloman were gone, wickets fell regularly with Weston winning by 58 runs.

The Forte Financial man of the match was shared by Fin Mayo and Jack Press.
