Weston Rugby Club has secured the services of fly-half Glenn Dickson as player/head coach for the next two years.

FOLLOWING their relegation from National 3 South West, Weston Rugby Club has secured the services of fly-half Glenn Dickson as a player/head coach on a two-year deal.

Dickson, aged 28, born in Dunedin, New Zealand, can count Super Rugby franchise the Highlanders and English Premiership league leaders Northampton Saints as previous employers.

“The potential of this club is absolutely huge,” said Dickson. “I’m really excited to get going with my role, and working with what is already a talented group of players.”

This will be Dickson’s second stint at Weston following a decisive playing role in 2010, which culminated in Dickson kicking Weston to Somerset Cup glory.

“My move to Weston in 2010 was the catalyst for me playing at the highest levels of world rugby. People like current club captain George Sparks, have become like brothers to me, and in fact every member of the club have made my wife and I extremely welcome.”

Dickson is under no illusion as to the clubs current plight, and has set his sights high as to where he believes a club of Weston’s size should be.

He said: “As a club we were very disappointed to be relegated this year. I have every belief that, with full respect to our opposition, with hard work and commitment, we will come straight back up at the first attempt next year.”

Weston’s president John Brentnall, cannot emphasis enough the impact of the signing for the club, but also for the community as a whole. He said: “This signing is wonderful news for our club. Glenn is still more than capable of playing Premiership rugby and is an exceptional coach.”

Weston rugby club cater for players of all ages and standards. The mini and junior section covers all ages from Under-6s to 17s, with the seniors having three sides and a Colts team. Glenn will be involved in coaching throughout all facets of the club, so next season is an exciting time to join.
