Worle defeated Taunton United to keep up their promotion push.

Taunton United 0

Worle 6

WORLE travelled to Taunton United against a team lying in sixth place in the league and after 20 minutes, Worle found themselves three goals up with a hat-trick coming from Ryan Downs.

Worle were dominant throughout the game on a difficult pitch. Chances fell to Ollie Clements and Ryan Hodrien and Worle were disappointed to go into the break only three goals up.

Taunton were showing very little and did not trouble Jack Hodrien in the Worle goal, with the back four of Dan and Jake Sprague, Mike Gibbons and Mike Hodrien looking secure, it was only a question of how many Worle would score.

Further goals came at regular intervals in the second half with a double from Clements and a wonder strike from Frazier Rendall from 35 yards out.

This sets up a great local derby at home to Winscombe, who currenly lie in second spot with Worle just a point back and looking to get into the promotion spot. Kick-off is 3pm on Saturday.

Portishead Town Res 1

Langford Rovers 1

ON A DIFFICULT playing surface that made control testing, this proved a difficult test for Langford at Bristol Road.

With the ball bouncing and bobbling everywhere it was difficult for Rovers to get a foothold in the game against a Town side who were content to let them have possession.

A penalty 10 minutes from the interval saw former Weston youth team product Joseph Lott give Portishead the lead.

The Bulls started the second half the brighter and drew level through Daniel Hartley, but despite dominating proceedings and creating numerous chances, they couldn’t find a winning goal.

The man of the match award, kindly sponsored by Edge Barbers went to Daniel Hartley.

A busy final eight days of the season begins for Langford on Saturday when Portishead Town Reserves are the visitors to the Woodspring Stadium in a Somerset County League Division 1 clash (3pm).

On Monday, Banwell are the visitors for the penultimate fixture of the season in another 3pm kick-off. The Banwell side is expected to include a number of familiar faces including Harry Hornigold, Samuel Merryweather, William Judd and Matthew White.

The following Saturday, the curtain comes down on an encouraging campaign when Cleeve West Town are the visitors (3pm).

ALTHOUGH disappointed that his charges were not able to obtain promotion, Langford Rovers supremo Jamie Patterson, in his first managerial job, will be able to look back on the current campaign with a great deal of satisfaction.

Former Sheffield United and Torquay United trainee Patterson should be immensely proud of the platform that his club has provided for young talent across Weston and the South West area, none more so illustrated by the progression of William Sneddon-Coombes.

Sneddon-Coombes was called up by Weston for their Vanarama Conference South trip to Bromley and ended up making his debut.

Another highlight was the derby day double over Weston St Johns, the second of which courtesy of a Sneddon-Coombes double and an Adam Filer strike effectively condemned the Saints to relegation.

This season Langford have had the youngest average age of any team competing in all five divisions of the Somerset County League and have seen Sneddon-Coombes, Zemell Burton, Jake Buxton, Warren Collins, Tyler Davis, Kailan Gould, Daniel Jackson, George King, Callum Kingdon and Ryan Scott all go on to play at a higher level.

Winscombe 5

Weston St Johns 0

WINSCOMBE continued their push for promotion by defeating a plucky Weston St Johns side 5-0.

The hosts got off to a dream start when Willis robbed a Saints player and fed Flint who ran on and fired home after only 14 seconds. They didn’t score again until the 31st minute as chances fell to Flint, Clark Mason and Willis. Clark got the second and Flint got his 31st of a productive season just before the break.

The second half was the same with the home side surging forward, with Stoves and Hughes orchestrating everything and the back four of Heal, Hosey, Massey and Chambers not letting the visitors anywhere near Page’s goal.

With Dave Wilcox and Frank Matthews playing well against their old club, it was difficult for Winscombe. Heal made it 4-0 after 85 minutes with a powerful drive and Willis got the goal he deserved to make it 5-0 four minutes later.

Winscombe Fish Bar man of the match was Simon Willis.

Winscombe visit third-placed Worle on Saturday where a point will be enough for Winscombe to gain promotion. They also play the Division 2 Cup final on Wednesday when they play Ashton and Backwell Reserves at Portishead.
