Victoria Bowling Club’s men’s fours indoor league was won by the Goldfinches.

VICTORIA Bowling Club’s indoor season is reaching its climax.

The men’s fours league was won by the Goldfinches, with the Thrushes being runners-up, while the men’s triples saw teams Bravo and Charlie battle to the end with Bravo clinching the title.

The ladies’ triples was a closely-matched tournament with the Larks sealing victory by just two points. The fours knockout competition has started to find the finalists for the final on April 8.

The men’s triples final will be between Bravo and Charlie and was played last week. The mixed pairs will be between husband and wife team J and S Newman and H Frye and J Mingoe-West. The men’s pairs will see father and son of Team Stocker against P Wyatt and D Fairhurst.

The ladies’ pairs will be A Holland and T Ellis against B Williams and K Wilson. The ladies’ singles has two recent new members, H Frye and T Ellis competing for the championship. Father and son Team Stocker play each other for the men’s singles championship.

Presidents day, the traditional opening of the outdoor greens will take place on April 11 and as always, spectators are welcome to attend. Victoria will be holding open days between 10am-noon on April 18/19 and 25/26 and also on May 2. Anyone of any ability will be welcome to come along and experience lawn green bowling. Qualified coaches and equipment are available.

ASHCOMBE Park Bowling Club ladies’ section start their new season on April 11 (1.45 for a 2.30pm start) and will be a joint event with the men’s section for the first time. The game will be followed by a meal in the clubhouse.

The clubhouse has had an extension completed during the closed season and this will be officially opened by the Mayor, Cllr Roz Willis on the day and a plaque commemorating the event will be displayed in the clubhouse.

An open day is planned for May 9 at 10am when anyone interested in trying the sport will be most welcome to come along, any age or standard (all you need are flat soled shoes, woods available) free of charge.

The spring coffee morning will also be held on that day and you are welcome to join us and meet some of the club members. Anyone interested in joining, please contact secretary Sue Bayntun on 01934 522779 or just turn up.

The ladies have a full programme of matches, competitions and events planned. The first match is on April 23 against Victoria at home (2.30pm).

YEAR 11 students from Broadoak Mathematics and Computing College completed another winter’s bowling as one of their sports options at Clarence Bowling Club.

Competition was close between the students with the Best Broadoak Junior trophy not being decided until the last end on the last day. Pictured is winner James, with runner-up Tom (left).
