Weston Boxing Club’s Terry Price is the new Western Counties champion.
WESTON Boxing Club took Terry Price to Barnstaple for the Western Counties Junior Cadet finals for the first tournament of the year.
However, Terry’s opponent failed the weigh-in, but fortunately there was a stand-in, Jake Hooper of Barnstaple, whose opponent failed to turn up.
As soon as the bell went for the first round, Terry measured up his opponent and pounced, forcing his opponent into a neutral corner with a barrage of punches. He kept up the attack and bloodied the Barnstaple lad’s nose and forced the referee to step in and give a count.
Once the standing eight was finished, Terry was back on the onslaught, again the referee jumped in, calling a halt to proceedings early in the first round, giving him a first round victory.
Terry joins his brother Sailey as a Western Counties champion and moves onto the quarters-finals on March 14th, hoping to join clubmate Wallice Attwell in the semi-finals.
He has a tough task ahead, as his next opponent is English and European schoolboy shampion Adam Hussien.
On Saturday, Sam Higgins, aged 17 and Damon Godbeer (34) compete at the Bristol Civic Centre.
Preparations are also in place for the Weston ABC & Warrior ABC home show at Hutton Moor on April 18. Tables are already selling fast with 20 local boxers primed for action. For more details, contact John Cleary on 07786 371164.
