Weston secured another victory in an away fixture at the Coombe Dingle sports complex.

WESTBURY 0

WESTON 2

WESTON travelled to Coombe Dingle Sports complex where they secured a 2-0 win against Westbury.

The start saw Weston staying in the Westbury half for most of the first quarter. Midfield players Beer, Watkins, Heal and Kearsey worked well hard, passing well on the break to attackers Neate and McCarthy.

The visitors took the lead when Kearsey read a Westbury pass across the D to intercept and set up Hancock to slap the ball into the corner of the goal.

Weston had more chances in the attacking 25-yard area. A short corner was pushed out by Beer and struck at top of the D by Sully, but Hancock just missed the deflection chance with the ball just going wide of the post.

Westbury made a few plays in the Weston’s half which kept defenders Hector, Brees and Holland on their toes. Weston doubled their lead after good work by Watkins and Heal, the ball was flicked home by Hancock.

Just before the break, Westbury were awarded a short corner, but Weston kept their two-goal lead intact after a excellent reaction save by keeper Bryant.

After the break, possession was evenly retained by both sides. Weston created goal chances through Hancock. Westbury also made a quick move on the break, but Weston managed to clear the danger.

Man of the match was given to Bryant for some great saves at important stages in the game.

Bristol & West F 0

AFTER a run of three defeats, the seconds got back to winning ways with an emphatic victory over Bristol & West.

A minute’s silence was observed by both teams before the game after they were informed of the untimely death of well respected ex-Weston chairman and first team player Trevor Anguish.

Goals started to flow as first Beer from a short corner, then Pitt and Patrick put the ball into the back of the net. Two more goals from Pitt saw him complete a first-half hat-trick and Weston finished the half with a 5-0 lead.

After the break, the visitors tried to put Weston on the back foot. However, the defence of Duckett, Moore and Mount held firm and Canter in goal finished the game having not touched the ball.

Two goals that could be contenders for goal of the season followed. The first was a lovely reverse pass from Beer which sent the whole of the Bristol defence in the wrong direction and allowed Pitt to pick up his fourth of the game.

The second found Westcott, Duckett and Moore outnumbered and pinned down, but good play saw Davies feed Thorne to finish at the back post.

Beer finished well again late into the game to score his 37th league goal of the season and make the final score 8-0.

The man of the match award was split after all ten outfield players put in excellent performances, with Mobsby and Davies being the eventual winners. DOD was perhaps unfairly given to Canter as he failed to save a single shot on goal.
