Aiden Claridge was Weston Boxing Club’s sole winner at Henbury Social Club in Bristol.

THREE Weston Boxing Club members competed at Henbury Social Club, Bristol.

First to grace the canvas was Jordan Baker, aged 13, facing Joe Mullen of host club National Smelting. Jordan should of had the upper hand, having stopped Mullen when they met previously, but Jordan was flat for this contest, enabling Mullen to pinch a split decision win.

Scott Davey (14), having his fourth contest in as many weeks, was also having a rematch and he too, had beaten his opponent previously, Anton Haskins of Empire.

The workrate again was not busy enough, and though Haskin’s did not do a great deal himself, he got the nod by split decision.

The final Weston boxer of the night was Sam Higgins (16), who faced National Smelting’s Matt Davis Young. After a few choice words from his corner, Sam worked his socks off from beginning to end to get a deserved win.

Weston travelled to Bude, Cornwall, with Aiden Claridge of Cheddar, to face Harry Sasse of Tamar.

The two heavyweight 13-year-olds went at it from the start with big blows, Aiden was forced back towards his own corner at one point, but turned his opponent and threw in a four punch combination finishing with an uppercut, that forced Sasse to receive a standing eight count.

The second was another slug fest with Aiden again edging it, and in the third round, both boxers started to tire, but did not let up in their efforts, and Aiden forced another standing eight.

The final bell went and Aiden Claridge was jubilant when announced the winner, both boxers receiving an extra round of applause for their gallant battle.

On Saturday, a whole host of Weston boxers will be competing at Redwood Country Club, Long Ashton. Sam Higgins, Wallice Attwell, Scott Davey, Jamie Claridge, Wesley Williams and Jiley Lamb, will all be giving advantages to their opponents, age weight and experience, but all hoping to make it a grand finale for the season.
