A weakened Burnham Under-16 side earned a point against

BURNHAM Under-16s went into their latest league match against St George with only 10 players.

They also had to play a whole half with nine players due to an injury, but fully deserved the 1-1 draw. In an unfamiliar line up with five players missing, Burnham played some great football in difficult conditions.

Against a large physical team, the midfield of Kidner, James, Jefferies and Podbury did well to win most 50/50 balls. When called upon, the back three of Durrant, Costello and Gardiner did some stirling work and Manlow in goal was reliable.

Jefferies went close with a long-range strike hitting the bar, before Burnham went a goal down against the run of play 10 minutes from the end.

They got a deserved equaliser through the hard working Kidner, who deserves a special mention as he played much of the game with a sore ankle.

Barrington & Sons Solicitors man of the match were the whole team for a fantastic battling display.

UPHILL Under-15s only had 12 players available against St George, but they showed great effort and commitment in poor conditions.

St George got the opener as they slotted the ball past Uphill keeper Ben Major. Tom Stephens worked his socks off trying to create chances for lone front man James Bromley.

Josh Makin made a terrific goal-line clearance just after the break, but St Georges scored two quick goals to make it 3-0. Uphill kept going and were rewarded with a great individual goal from Bromley.

Granny George man of the match went to Tom Stephens. Special mention to referee William Jones, who had a very good game.
