Weston fell to their second successive defeat at the hands of Redingensians.

REDINGENSIANS 19 pts

WESTON 5 pts

AFTER starting their season so well with nine victories from the first 10 matches, Weston fell to their second successive defeat at the hands of a youthful-looking Redingensians.

The Seasiders have yet to win at Sonning and in another below par performance, they never looked like altering the trend.

The hosts’ fly-half, Guy Swadling sent his team on their way with a brace of penalties during the first quarter and went on to score all of their points with two more goals and the conversion of his own try.

On the other hand, James Mackay, came away from the match pointless for the first time this season, but the visitors did create a couple of scoring chances midway through the first-half.

There was a long break by scrum-half Sam Smee and a good counter-attack by Harry Jones, but both thrusts failed to deliver a try.

However, just before the break, they used the touchline from a penalty and hooker David Burge was the scorer of his seventh try of the season from the resultant drive.

This brought the interval score to 9-5 and Weston were back in the match. But Mackay and Swadling both missed penalty shots before the hosts broke out from their own 22 and Swadling’s fourth penalty eased the Rams further ahead.

The Seasiders tried desperately for an equalising seven points but the home defence held firm and when Swadling converted his own try, it was game, set and match.

This column suggested last week that Saturday’s match and the forthcoming date with London Irish would be of the difficult variety and they will need to sharpen up before the latter, who are the division’s leaders, come calling on December 8.

This Saturday, the 1st XV have no match but the United host Midsomer Norton in the Somerset Premier Division in a re-arranged match, postponed from October.

Norton currently occupy second place and the United fourth. The kick-off is at 2.30pm.
