Burnham 36 pts

North Bristol 15 pts

IN near perfect conditions for running rugby, Burnham produced their first win of the season at home to North Bristol.

The game did not start as planned as North Bristol put Burnham under pressure and scored in the corner. Minutes later, North again added to their scoreline with a penalty to make the score 8-0.

Against a heavier pack, Burnham began to drive the opposition off their own ball creating space for the backs to link with forwards and work space for Richard Muskett to score under the posts, with Tim Piper adding the conversion.

With Burnhams forwards now in a dominating mood and the backs starting to interlink, they were able to create the try of the game through Jordan Paul.

A penalty gave Burnham the option of a scrum and they drove North back to create a pushover try for No8 Stuart Blake to make the score 19-8 at the break.

The second half started the same as the first with North starting the stronger and scored a converted try to make the score 19-15. Burnham hit back to score another pushover try through Blake.

Burnham produced their next try through good play by Mike Hocking, who was stopped short of the line but he managed to squeeze a pass out to Piper who dived over. As the opposition tired, Burnham scored again through new captain Russ Pike.

On Saturday, Burnham are away to Old Bristolians. The coach will be leaving the club between 12-12.30pm if any spectators are interested.

Burnham is always on the lookout for new players, volunteers, supporters and sponsors. If anyone is interested please contact chairman Caine Harding or captain Russ Pike through the rugby club website.

THE seconds travelled across the Somerset Levels and captain Matt Slater had a full squad at his disposal with the return of Matt Bonell and Ben Gibb.

After early Burnham pressure, Tor broke out to score a converted try. The visitors replied immediately with a try by Will Conway, converted by Alex Bowkett.

Unfortunately Burnham were caught napping at the kick-off and knocked the ball on, resulting in a Tor scrum. Tor kept possession and forced a line-out which resulted in a pushover try.

Burnham replied some 10 minutes later with Bonell breaking from the back of a ruck and forcing his way over, converted by Bowkett to make it 14-12 at the break.

In the second half, poor discipline at the breakdown by Burnham provided Tor with several tap penalties, which they managed to score three identical tries by the same forward.

Burnham managed to pull a try back with some quick ball from Berry through the backs to Gibb who scored in the far corner.
