WELLING UNITED 1

WESTON-S-MARE 0

WESTON were rather unfortunate to leave Park View Road with nothing in an entertaining Blue Square South game dominated by defences.

Although the home side had much the greater share of possession, their finishing was abysmal, with 10 excellent chances off target as Weston keeper Lloyd Irish had only to make one decent save.

On another day, Weston might have got something when Ben Kirk was brought down just outside the home penalty area on five minutes and a minute before the interval, Sahr Kabba got the better of giant defender Anthony Achcampong and played the ball across the Welling goal where Nabi Diallo just failed to make contact with the goal at his mercy.

For the home side, Loick Pircs gave an easy save to Irish on nine minutes, Andy Pugh was just over from Loui Fazakerley’s free kick and Lee Clarke gave Irish another easy save.

Weston started the second half brightly with Martyn Slocombe just off target with a free kick and minutes later Kabba was put through again, but home keeper John Whitehouse was quickly off his line to clear.

The visitors’ best chance came on 63 minutes when Kane Ingram headed against a post from Craig Rand’s free kick and the home defence gratefully turned the ball behind.

The crucial goal came on 69 minutes when from Fazakerley’s in-swinging free kick, Clarke outjumped the Weston defence to head past Irish.

Weston brought on Dayle Grubb for Slocombe, Matt Villis, back from injury, for Justin Porter and Nat Pepperell for Diallo, Welling came closest when Fazakerley’s fierce shot was tipped over his crossbar by Irish.

When the sides met in October, Weston came back from 2-0 down to win 4-3 with goals by Kane Ingram, Marcus Duharty and two from substitute Sahr Kabba.
