GYMNASTICS - BRITISH Gymnastics held their aerobic championships over three days at Fenton Manor in Stoke-on-Trent and Weston gymnasts were out in force after spending the year preparing for the event.

The event included the national cup championship and the higher level of international championships.

Weston Aerobic Gymnastic Club were delighted to bring back six British champions. Ruby Youds, Amelia Barrett, Matt Saunders, Abi Butterfield, Kirsty Harvey and Charlotte White collected the gold medal and the title British champions 2009 in their categories.

In the 10-11 year old pairs Ruby and Amelia showed total syncronisation to pick up their gold medal, followed by Weston's most successful international gymnasts Matt and Abi who performed a polished routine to win the 12-14 pairs. Kirsty and Charlotte then stepped up to the mark to collect another British title with the 15-17 pairs. This was a delightful result for their final routine together.

In the male individual, Matt Saunders had to be content with the silver medal when a long-time Welsh rival narrowly beat him. In the12-14 group section the team from Weston performed a superb routine to get the bronze medal, Jess Taylor, Issy Jeffery, Georgina Hannam, Ellen Owen, Lucy Bladon and Abi Butterfield showed off their skills with a stylish routine.

In the national cup, Weston again had gymnasts who have performed well all year hoping to bring home the medals from the most prestigious event, and they did not disappoint. In the 10-11 year old trios Emily Antoine, Jamie Ward and Amelia Barrett won the gold in effortless style, with their performance bringing much entertainment to coach Kat Saunders.

The next age group up, the 12-14 trios, silver was won by Olivia Barrett, Jade Hunt and Kat Forster, and the pairs silver was won by Rosie Hitchins and Nicole Smith.

In the youngest age group of all the nine-year-old gymnasts from Weston held their nerves well at their first British championships with Rhys Williams winning the male individual in fine style and then joining Keira Landen to win the pairs.

All the Weston gymnasts, including the recreational, mini, development and competitive squad are now working on the routines for the end of year's display and awards night to be held at Broadoak School on October 17, to show the parents and families how much they have achieved since training with the club, details phone Debbie Saunders 07779 802110
