FOR the second match running, a promising first-half display by the Seasiders dissolved after the half time break as visitors Banbury came from behind to beat the home side and take all three points back to Oxfordshire.

Clevedon made a number of changes to the line-up that started at Bishop Sutton as they strove to fulfill manager Nick Tucker's promise that they would "perform well" after the midweek shocker. For the first 45 minutes they fulfilled that promise and showed a far better display but when Banbury stepped up a gear in the second half Clevedon simply failed to respond and the winning margin could, in honesty, have been more.

The first half started quietly with Banbury's Stanbridge showing first with a long-range effort well saved by Danny Greaves, but then Aaron Blakemore, twice, and Tom Billing fired in good shots as Clevedon settled and came into the game.

Declan Benjamin should have done better with a header but Clevedon took the lead in the 22nd minute with a well worked goal. Danny Wring crossed to Aaron Blakemore who showed good control shooting past Joe Murrell in the visitors' goal.

Blakemore could have doubled the home side's lead when put through by a long clearance, only for Murrell to come out and block the shot with a fine save. Banbury began to show more intent but they were generally restricted to tame, long-range efforts before Craig Loxton had to head off his own line in the closing minute and Clevedon were relieved to go into half time with their single goal lead intact.

The second half started with Banbury showing renewed spirit and they threatened to take the game over, with Jason Taylor having a goal disallowed for a foul on Danny Greaves, before Clevedon responded with Blakemore and Seavill going close just before the hour. Play then got scrappy as mistakes started to creep into the game, but Banbury kept pushing forward and an equaliser arrived on 68 minutes when Declan Benjamin capitalised on some poor defending and headed over Danny Greaves into an empty net. Less than five minutes later they deservedly went ahead when Matt Walsh gave the ball away in midfield and Howard Forinton's cross was turned into his own net by Callum Fisher.

Manager Nick Tucker brought on all three substitutes with 10 minutes remaining, but despite this move it made no difference and Banbury could have added more as another goal was disallowed and Taylor and Forinton nearly increased the lead.
