BELVEDERE succumbed to a heavy defeat at the hands of promotion-chasing Westlands and are still in danger of relegation from Division One with two games left.

After losing the toss and being asked to field, Belvedere struggled against some fine Westlands batting. Pick of the Belvedere bowlers was Ashley Woodall who took the first wicket with 91 already on the board. Boucher proved to be in fine form as he smashed a fine 134.

Wickets fell steadily in the closing overs as Brian Hosey took three, and Woodall another. Belvedere fielded well, Neil Chadwick, Anup Kolambkar and Ray Dibben all holding fine catches but this did not stop Westlands posting an imposing total of 281-6.

Belvedere's reply started poorly as Joe Gadd was dismissed leg before to a ball which kept low with the score on eight. Kolambkar and Gullick shared a promising second wicket partnership of 69. Gullick looked in good touch before he was deceived by a slower ball and caught at point for 26.

Neil Chadwick looked to attack the bowling alongside Kolambkar who reached his second half-century of the season before miscuing a drive.

Belvedere's middle order then collapsed as Cooper, Dibben, Tasker and Watts were dismissed quickly, effectively ending the game. Chadwick hung around for a fine 34 before being harshly adjudged leg before leaving Dave Taylor and Ashley Woodall to take the score past 160 to earn an eighth batting point.

Tasker Printers man of the match was Ashley Woodall for a fine bowling display, and good batting under pressure

* Belvedere A travelled to Glastonbury already having already had their relegation confirmed.

Having won the toss, the acting skipper elected to field. Opening the bowling were Neil Parkes and Mike Hosey who bowled a tight line, putting the batsmen under pressure, and taking the first wicket on 22. James Collins took two more wickets in one over and Parkes bowled a mean spell, collecting the wicket of Lurkins to return figures of 12-2-20-1.

The introduction of Keith Jackson, who returned figures of 10-0-30-1, led to the fall of yet another wicket, that of Mason. The two separate spells of bowling by Hosey and Collins led to a further two wickets falling, one to each, resulting in return figures of 11-1-32-2 for Hosey and 8-0-29-3 for Collins. Glastonbury finished their innings on 144 for 7.

Belvedere started their pursuit of the total with Wayne Hind and Sam Neate batting well. Neate lost his wicket after scoring a fine 21. This brought Jackson to the crease to steadily build a solid partnership with Hind until Hind's innings came to an end for a good 36, leaving Belvedere in a strong position of 72-2.

Belvedere then suffered a mini batting collapse, losing quick wickets but with Jackson remaining out in the middle the target was still possible. All looked lost when Jackson went leg before for 30, but Jamie Loud hit a quick 11 to offering fresh hope. Hosey and Maitland tried in vain to reach the target but, with the final wicket of Hosey going, Belvedere were left 15 runs short of the Glastonbury total.

Skipper Maitland would like to thank all the players for their efforts and contribution to a good sporting game. The Tasker Printers man of the match award went jointly to Mike Hosey and James Collins.
