THE Clay Pigeon Circuit, which is just west of Dorchester in Dorset, is the circuit where 12-year-old Robbie Gallier of Lympsham started his karting career a little over a year ago, has not always been the luckiest of circuits for him, despite it being one of his favorites.

However last weekend was to be the race meeting to put that run of luck behind him. At the Saturday's free practice the weather was appalling with heavy rain and mist, practice was delayed due to poor visibility, these conditions are the type that Robbie thrives in. Finding a good set-up early meant he was soon on the pace and in fact taking fastest times throughout the five sessions.

On Sunday all the set-up work was of no use as the sun shone throughout the day, luckily the team already had a good weather set-up from previous races at the circuit. With Robbie starting ninth, seventh and third in the three heats, he went on to win all three and taking fastest lap in two of them. This meant he easily qualified pole for the 12-lap final, which he led until lap 6 when he came up to lap a back marker. This allowed the chasing pack to catch him and pass him as he was trying to avoid an accident as the novice back marker weaved across the circuit.

It was to be his day as it seemed nothing was to stop him as he set about catching up the pack and passing all three of them on lap 8 to eventually take the win by a massive 12 kart distance.

As this was also a round of the National Kart Racing Association and Clay Club championship, as a result of this tremendous weekend Robbie has won the NKRA regional championship and leads the club championship by a substantial margin.
