Weston Ladies 1sts 6Taunton Civil Service Ladies 1sts 3WESTON Ladies were slow to start their last league game of the season, probably due to the fact the club held their annual dinner-dance the night before.Civil Service took full advantage of Weston's lack-lustre performance and were 3-0 up within 20 minutes with goals from Natalie Lawrence (2) and Katie Cobb. But with a change of weather and a heavy shower it seamed to wake Weston up. After a fine run from midfield by Tina Delaney, Weston were awarded a short corner and Alex Naughalty flicked the ball home to give them a foot in the game at half-time.Captain Vanessa Mawford's team-talk at half time seemed to do the trick and with the arrival of the sunshine Weston began to play. As poor as the play in the first half had been, Weston showed their class in the second half, the movement off the ball was excellent and Weston played the ball around with ease and a goal flurry followed, Laura Davies getting a hat-trick and Lucy Clarke and Vanessa Mawford also scoring. The came capped a fantastic season with the Ladies promoted as champions 15 points clear of Ottery St Mary second place. Weston have scored 83 goals, top scorer being Charli Crandon with 17, closely followed by Vanessa Mawford with 15, and conceded 33. Additionally, accurate passing was just one of the skills demonstrated by Becca Young and Amelia Bourton.Player of the match for Winscombe was Becca Young.
