A former Priory School student helped Avon Schools achieve their second ever podium finish in the Senior Girls age group at the National Combined Events Finals at Bedford recently.

Stephanie Brooks, now at SGS College, led by example after finishing eighth of the 40 qualifiers to help Avon finish in a magnificent third place against all the other England Counties.

Brooks recorded personal bests in the 100m Hurdles (16.08), High Jump (1.56) Shot Put (8.61), 200m (25.85) Javelin (30.51) and 800m (2:32.27) saw her crown a fine performance in her last ever display

Brooks has represented Avon Schools in Sports Hall Athletics, Cross Country, Track and Field and Combined Events.

She was ably supported by the excellent Lily Bailey (St.Brendans), who recorded four personal bests in the High Jump (1.65), Hurdles (17.42), Shot Put (7:62), Javelin (25.94), to finish in 12th place.

Alex Oliver (SGS College and former Nailsea School) took advantage of her first high level competition with personal bests in 200m (29.3) Long Jump (4.35), Javelin (16.75) and 800m (2:42.54),and Hurdles (19.84)  as well as improving her score to 2703 compared to 2593 at Yeovil. She proved vital as the third scorer.

In the Inter Boys competition Connor Hewitt (Gordano School) and a member of North Somerset AC improved his personal best in six events to finish 20th in his first year as an Intermediate.

He recorded personal bests in the Hurdles(15.88) High Jump (1.68) Javelin (32.19) 400m(55.18) Shot Put (1.07) and 1500m(4:52.86) where he took 15 seconds of his previous time. This magnificent performance took him over 4000pts for the first time.

Myalee Osola (Colstons) and Alice Wilson (King Edwards) both competing one last time for Avon before moving to Millfield again performed with distinction.

Osola extended her personal bests in Hurdles (11.52), High Jump (1.53) Shot Put (8.97) 200m (26.59) and Javelin (30.91) finishing with a gutsy 800m (2:35.87) to finish in seventh place.

Wilson improved in the throws with a Shot Put (11.06) and in Javelin (33.07). Her best track event was the Hurdles (12.96) to finish in 24th.
