Weston Ladies returned from their Christmas break with a 1-1 draw against Firebrands Fourths in the West Women's Brunel Division One last Saturday.

The midfield of Aga Maciejczyk, Maddie Welsh, Georgia Dale, and Clare Dale moved the ball with pace down to the attacking D and effectively kept possession of the ball in the attacking half.

Weston’s rotating attack consisted of Aimee Grimes, Eva Ferdinando, Amy Green, Phoebe Hughes and Lottie Hughes.

And this led to a swift goal from Phoebe Hughes after being beautifully by Clare Dale.

Weston controlled the majority of the first half and were unfortunate not to increase their lead.

Weston’s rotating defence of Orla Crabb, Jo Withers, Cherie Broadfield, Shelly Parkins, Libby Avery, and Hannah Shepherd continued to make strong tackles and clearances.

Goalkeeper Lucy Smale made fantastic saves of the very few shots on target made by Firebrands.

Unfortunately Weston’s concentration lapsed and conceded when Claire Holmsey set up Anna Cranfield to level the scores on a rebound.

Weston worked relentlessly to maintain possession, continued to make on target strikes at the oppositions goal and create opportunities.

However, this was not enough to regain the lead and the match concluded with a draw.

Weston return to action this Saturday when they take on Nailsea at Gordano School.
