Weston Whippets Running Club celebrated their fifth birthday recently.

There was only one way to make the most of the celebrations and that was by running a constant relay for 12 hours, with each pair running for at least 15 minutes or 2k before handing the baton on to the next runners.

The first pair of runners, club founder and chairwoman, Shelley Adams-Bordon and co-chairwoman, Julie Kanaan set off at 5am on Sunday February 5.

The duo formed a brilliant tag team with Karen O'Sullivan and club treasurer Chris Sanders for the next hour before other members of the club came along to take their turn in the relay.

The day saw around 60 adults, as well as five from the youth team and 18 of their youngest members do the run. Weston Whippets also had full families taking their turn to make the day a wonderful family celebration.

The relay finished at 5pm with glasses of prosecco raised to the last runners of the day Adams-Bordon and Amy Biggart.

A special mention goes out to Kaye Sibley and Sarah Evans, who between them completed over 10 relay slots.

The club celebrated with two lovely cakes and prosecco at their club base, Haywood Airfield Leisure Enterprise on Whitney Crescent, Haywood.

The Club offered their first sessions on January 31, 2018, after North Somerset Council awarded Run Leader funding to  Adams-Bordon through This Girl Can as part of a project to support women in to sport, based in the then new community of Haywood Village.

The first 0 to 5k courses were delivered to 30 new runners over 3 courses.

Since then the club has continued to offer courses ranging from 0 to 5k all the way up to Marathon distance with support from their team of Coaches.

They also offer funetics coaching to children aged four to 12-years-old and run coaching to all aged 12 and over. With roughly 150 members, they offer something for everyone.
