Goals from Lottie Hughes and Clare Dale helped Weston Hockey Club Ladies edge Knowle to win 2-1 in West Women's Brunel Division One last Saturday.

Weston dominated the first half with the midfield of Dale, Phoebe Hughes, Maddie Welsh, Aga Maciejczyk and Claire Ratcliffe making great passes between themselves to easily get around the Knowle players and pass up to the forwards.

It wasn’t long before Hughes managed to get the opening goal. With Knowle given a green card, which left them at 10 players, meant Weston had a great chance for a second goal.

The forwards of Aimee Grimes, Grace Clifford, Lottie Hughes and Winnie White were making great runs into space and worked well together, which led to a Weston short corner.

Dale pushed out to Clifford who was denied by the keeper, but a deflection off Dale let to Grimes picking up the ball and rocketing it into the goal for Weston to be 2-0 up.

The second half tested Weston’s defence of Jo Withers, Cherie Broadfield, Orla Crabb, Emily Vickery, Freya Duncan and Ieva Aucynaite but despite receiving another green card, Knowle managed to get one goal past Jade Harding making the score 2-1.

But the final whistle eventually went which gave Weston a well-deserved win.
