Ashcombe Park Bows Club were honoured to welcome many of the best bowlers from across the County for the Somerset Bowls National semi-finals recently.

Club President Les Cox welcomed County President Richard Soper, The County Competition Secretary and around 85 competitors!

Men and ladies of all ages battled through several rounds and quarter-finals in the hope of victory to reach the finals and a place to represent Somerset at the Nationals at Leamington in August.

Many of the competitors have represented their County in previous years and have International Honors.

Stef Branfield, from Clevedon, has represented England against European teams in Scotland and travelled to New Zealand to compete in the World Champion of Champions.

Newly selected Olivia Starr will be in the England Under-25s and Ollie Collins the under-18s this summer.

They  were all successful winning their Singles matches and putting on a fine display of bowling to the enjoyment of their supporters and the large crowds.

Charmian Pearce complimented the Club, saying: “Ashcombe have worked hard to provide us with top class greens for the Semi-Finals today and in return, you, the bowlers have provided us with an excellent display of bowling.

“Thank you for hosting this event so successfully for the second time and we look forward to returning in 2025.”
