St Andrews women face a testing weekend in which they will be aiming to reach two county semi-finals in successive days.

After victories last week over Taunton Deane and Wellington, they make the long trip to Minehead on Saturday as they continue their bid to retain the Fear Cup.

On Saturday, St Andrews are at Taunton Deane for the second time in 11 days for their quarter-final of the Southey Trophy, a competition they have won more often than any other club with four titles.

St Andrews will be expecting a hard game, having been eight shots down at halfway to Deane in their fourth-round Fear Cup tie. Marie McMillan’s rink, 8-0 down after four ends, turned things round with a five and a seven in the second half.

That victory earned Saints a home tie against Wellington two days later. They proved too strong for the plucky visitors, finishing up on all three rinks to win by 48 shots.

With the rest of last week’s games either rained off or cancelled by opponents, Saints’ members relaxed on Sunday with a golf/bowls fun day, organised by member Brian Reeves, with Tony Ware being crowned the winner.

The Seagulls Fantastic Fives indoor team play on Monday, where they need to beat North Petherton to have any chance of topping their group into the knockout stages.
