Winscombe retained the Parrot Shield after beating local rivals Banwell over two legs to win the illustrious trophy recently.

Having won the first leg 113-86 Winscombe were the favourites to hold onto the Shield and added to their 27-shot difference with a comprehensive victory by 47 shots in the second.

The aggregate score of 74 shots from both legs saw Winscombe achieve one of the biggest overall wins in living memory against Banwell, who were unfortunately missing many of their senior players.

In the Over 55s Winscombe secured a good win over Portishead RBL, winning on four rinks and by 103 shots (16 points) to 86 shots (four points).

Mike Smart skipped the best winning rink and Tom Ellis recovered yet again from an 11 shot deficit.

Winscombe Ladies did not get the better of the green at Portishead RBL as they were beaten 62-37 in the North Somerset Triples League.

Posset mastered it well to win on each rink.

However, the Ladies picked up a good result in their Friendly Match against Yatton on Monday winning on all rinks to beat their local rivals 46-27.

Yatton arrived with one player short but still had a competitive game on a lovely green and with sunny weather.

In the Wedmore Plate. Winscombe recieved a bye in the first round and were draw against St Andrews.

Winscombe were three shots ahead on the last end but St Andrews drew level.

Dave Brown put the hosts ahead again before Barrie Forse removed it with his first wood. Winscombe’s skip Mal Dorrington failed to get second bowl and the match was drawn, but Winscombe had lost the extra end and it was St Andrews who progressed to the next round.

And in the North Somerset Bowls Association Knockout Cup on a awful afternoon, with continuous heavy rain showers, Winscombe were beaten by Ashcombe.
