TONY McCann led the way at the annual Brean Golf Club Seniors Away Day at Thornbury last Monday with a score of 41 points over the Marlwood course at the venue on the outskirts of Bristol.

McCann collected the RW Taylor Challenge Trophy which is awarded to the best score of the day.

Another Tony in the shape of Tony Spencer was the runner up with a tidy score of 40.

Vincent Ford was third on 37 just avoiding a log jam of four players on 36.

In addition to the Individual event a blind pairs competition was run with the scorecards being drawn out by Seniors Captain Ian Rogers at the conclusion of play.

Two Tony's came out on top in that event too with Tony McCann being drawn out alongside Tony Oliver to give them a combined winning score of 74.

Second place went to Barry Fellows and Roger Hurrell who were two of the 36 shooters with Dave Mann and Vincent Ford taking the final prize one point behind.

Club Treasurer Mats Mattsson produced the best points return of the day in the August Monthly Stableford.

He carded 43 points to win Division Two by 3 points from Nick Rich.

Rich was in turn one clear of third placed Tony McCann. A similar winning margin was enjoyed in Division One by Jez Clift.

A gross sub par round saw the 4 handicapper post an impressive 41 points leaving him three clear of George Havercroft on 38 with Barry Fellows third on 36. Division Three was claimed by Seniors Captain Elect Tim Amy.

He posted 42 points but that was only a single point better than his nearest challenger in Pete Dunn. Bob Pelzer placed third on 39.
